        Registration Booms for Camp

        A culmination of the ideas and efforts of more than just the organizers of this ‘unconference’, registration for PodCamp Boston brought together the most unique talent of a variety of professional fields. As PCB grew in notoriety and popularity, slots for both presenters and attendees filled up fast, which was why registration was encouraged as soon as possible.

        With an attendee list sporting some of the best and brightest in the worlds of academia, technology, media production, and consulting, it can be easily assumed that PodCamp Boston was the place to be in order to connect and learn from true success. It must be taken into consideration, however, that because PCB was designed not just for technological gurus, but specifically to reach out to the public. The original intent for the organization was to bring together both professionals in technology as well as spheres more locally accessible. Thus, networking became a whole new party between seminars and sessions, and you never knew who you might encounter, or how that encounter could change your career, or help you make your dreams possible.

        Perhaps this latter group of people was exactly who provided the most inspiration at PodCamp Boston. With the majority of registrants representing booming websites and design studios based off of their own unique interests (and many who also started with only their interest and not much of a prior technological background), many likely found just the role model they had been looking for to encourage them to reach their goals.

        The aforementioned “locally accessible spheres” in which one might have found him/herself mingling were comprised of everything from woodworkers, life coaches, religious ministers, health researchers, television producers, radio hosts, musicians and more, who all gained the simple tools necessary to make podcasting an effective means of sharing their talent and expanding their businesses.

        PodCamp Boston clearly derived its uniqueness and popularity from bringing different worlds into orbit with one another, and using the mixture to enhance the learning environment for all attendees. A prime example would be the mutual desire of both representatives from MIT and the founders of internationally famous “mommy blogs” to attend and glean valuable information from one another.

        Networking knew no bounds during this gathering, and the “value added” factor could not easily be calculated by the presence of numerous CEO’s, as the creed of PCB was to celebrate the contributions of all. It was this ideal situation of learning in “humility” that allowed so many great ideas to flourish, and the organization to extend its boundaries across international borders.

        The PodCamp Boston event had to move locations throughout the years to accommodate the lengthening lists of sign ups of people who yearned to both present and attend. It's possible that being located on the eastern seaboard would have been a little discouraging for people used to the fact that the technology centers of America hug the west coast. This was precisely the reason that the event founders and organizers planted and grew the first PodCamp within Boston, to emphasize to the world that just because technology originated elsewhere, that should never prevent learning and progression from being accessed and developed right where you are.

        What was most remarkable was the message that this event sent throughout the world: that no matter your interest -- be it banking, forestry research, business evangelism or clinical social work (all of which were represented in the attendee pool)--technology could be and would be an essential tool for the future, and that anyone could and should learn how to utilize it to its fullest potential to expand their business. PCB went on to dash existing stigmas that separated people and their work places from technology. Even if a plumber did not think he needs a podcast, smart media of some form or another was what would get his foot in the door when the competition grew heavy. And thanks to PodCamp Boston, many people were able to learn how to rise above the competition.
